PBL Course
Our single subject curriculum has been developed over the course of the past 20 years to accommodate for the needs of our increasingly diverse student body.
PBL Course 1:
While browsing a vocabulary book, students from the international program accidentally discovered a serious issue. In the nationality section at the end of the book, Taiwan was incorrectly listed as an independent country. After identifying the problem, the students immediately and voluntarily formed a PBL practice group, determined to point out the error to the publisher through a formal email.
To ensure that their action was both professional and persuasive, the group embarked on a “hands-on and intensive learning journey”:
-
Practicing formal English email writing: studying the structure, wording, and tone of formal correspondence to ensure the message was accurate, appropriate, and professional;
-
Researching authoritative supporting materials: collecting official documents from historical, legal, and diplomatic sources to compile solid evidence proving that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China;
-
Learning proper academic citation: mastering correct citation methods so that every argument presented in the email was well-supported and credible.
This practice activity, sparked by a seemingly small mistake, not only moved steadily toward solving a real-world problem, but also allowed students to genuinely improve their English application skills through learning by doing, making the experience highly rewarding.
